About Islam

Introduction to Islam

Islam is a monotheistic faith centred on the belief in one God Allah in Arabic—who is merciful, compassionate, and just. It is one of the world’s major religions, with over 1.9 billion followers across diverse cultures and nations. The word Islam itself means “submission to the will of God,” and a follower of Islam is known as a Muslim.

Islamic Belief and Guidance

Islam was revealed in the 7th century CE through the final prophet, Muhammad (peace be upon him), in the Arabian city of Mecca. Muslims believe that Prophet Muhammad is the last in a line of prophets that includes Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus (peace be upon them all), and that he brought the final and complete message of God to humanity.
The primary source of Islamic belief and guidance is the Qur’an, which Muslims regard as the literal word of God, revealed in Arabic. Alongside the Qur’an, the Sunnah—the teachings and example of Prophet Muhammad—provides a model for ethical living, social justice, and spiritual growth.
