Our History Timeline
Ilford Islamic Centre has grown from humble beginnings in 1968 to become a cornerstone of spiritual, educational, and community life in East London. Each phase of our journey reflects the dedication, unity, and generosity of our community — building a legacy that continues to shape future generations.
1968:
Humble Beginnings
Ilford Islamic Centre began when local Muslims gathered for Jumu'ah and Taraweeh prayers in private homes. This grassroots effort laid the foundation for what would become one of East London’s most respected Islamic institutions.
1974–1997:
Establishment & Expansion
With the growing needs of the community, various properties on Albert Road were gradually acquired. In 1997, Ilford’s first purpose-built mosque — complete with dome and minaret — was completed, marking a major milestone in the Centre’s history.
2001–2013:
Education & Community Growth
This period saw the development of Phases 2 to 4, including a dedicated Madrassah, Day Care and Community Centre, and a mosque extension to accommodate the expanding congregation. The Sunday School was also formally established to offer supplementary Islamic
education.
2009–Present:
Future Development
In pursuit of long-term educational goals, land was purchased in Newbury Park for a purpose-built Islamic Primary and Secondary School. This project represents the Centre’s continued vision for empowering future generations through faith-based
education.
